Overview
Developed by the SHAPE-Laos project the Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) module introduces key principles and practical approaches to ensure that health services are accessible, respectful, inclusive and responsive to the needs of all people.
Within the SHAPE-Laos framework, GEDSI is both a dedicated learning area and a cross-cutting principle across integrated service delivery, MHPSS, community outreach, referral, reporting and supervision. This module will help learners recognize how gender, disability, ethnicity, age, poverty, sexual orientation, gender identity and other social factors can influence access to health information, care and support.
Through practical examples and case-based learning, participants will explore how to provide non-discriminatory and people-centered services, communicate respectfully with diverse communities, protect confidentiality, reduce stigma, identify barriers to access, and support equitable participation in health service delivery.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the module, learners will be better prepared to :
1) Apply GEDSI principles in their daily work, whether at district hospital, health center or community level, and 2) Contribute to more inclusive, trusted and effective health services in Lao PDR.
